“Pain management through three-phase auricular therapy is commonly very effective, and occasionally is miraculous"

Past President of the American Academy of Medical Acupunture (2003-2005)
President,

Auricular Therapy at Andrews Air Force Base

“The expanded use of acupuncture on the battlefield is being met with enthusiasm from physicians and patients because it works,” says Dr. Niemtzow, Colonel (Ret), U.S. Air Force, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (Bethesda, MD) and Director of the USAF Acupuncture Center, Malcolm Grow Medical Center, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. “Acupuncture may be used as a primary modality or as an adjunct to Western medicine. In either case, it is changing the face of military medicine as a force multiplier.”

Colonel (Dr.) Richard Niemztow, M.D., PhD., M.P.H.

Wall Street Journal Article on Acupuncture in the U.S. Military,

"Can Needles Soothe Wounded Warriors?"

The article describes the Navy’s use of acupuncture—inserting needles at key targets in the head, ears, hands, and feet—to relieve symptoms such as sleeplessness, memory problems, anxiety, headache, and irritability that often follow an injury to the brain.

"I find it gratifying to treat seasonal allergies with acupuncture. There is often a quick response. Often patients get some relief during the first visit while lying on the exam table with their acupuncture needles in place"

- Patrick J. La Riccia, MD  - University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine

A Fascinating Field of Medicine

“Fifty years later [from the discovery of auricular medicine], many exciting and fascinating developments in understanding this medicine and how to use it for quite complex assessment and treatments are being tested and offered by trained practitioners around the world. This field continues to expand, with thousands of practitioners and exciting developments, particularly in Europe.”

- Beate Strittmatter, M.D., Academy for Acupuncture and Auriculomedicine - Munich, Germany,

Internationally known authority on auricular therapy, World Health Organization instructor

“When a disease occurs in an organ or certain kind of tissue, positive reactions will appear
on the corresponding auricular point(s). Stimulation of positively reacting point(s) by
applying the proper method can eliminate the pathological effect reversing the pathological
course.”

Li-Chun Huang, O.M.D., M.D. (China)

“There has been an explosion of research in the area of acupuncture”

Auricular Therapy -
Ear Acupuncture Research

The specialty of ear acupuncture, known as Auricular Therapy is an internationally documented and researched procedure since the 1950s when it was developed by Paul Nogier, M.D. of France.  I hope more American physicians will take the time to read the research and investigate this magnificent and sophisticated healing art, which I have proudly used to bring relief to countless patients in my private practice.  With so many health care methods being paraded under the banner of "alternative medicine,"  it is necessary to provide as much clinical evidence and background for procedures to back up claims.  As you will see below, Auricular Therapy is not some strange new "technique."  Just take a good look at the credentials of the researchers who authored the papers listed below.  If any local physician happens to have any negative comments about this sophisticated healing art, perhaps they should consider the level of education and expertise of those who are experienced in Auricular Therapy.

I am quite proud to have received my professional training in Auricular Therapy from one of world's elite practitioners and researchers, Nader Soliman, M.D., who has authored and co-authored several of the studies listed below.  I am also grateful to have been additionally trained by Colonel Richard Niemtzow, M.D., PhD, M.P.H. in the protocols of "Battlefield Acupuncture" and treatment for Xerostomia (dry mouth).

The following is a sample of some of the medical research abstracts and published articles on Auricular Therapy.  You may click on the links or the journal cover images to download the pdf of any of these articles:
